Looking Beyond You: There is More to Your Life than You Think

Looking Beyond You: There is More to Your Life than You Think

Since this year began, I have been pondering on this particular scripture documented in Ephesians 5:17. It says “don’t live carelessly, unthinkingly. Make sure you understand what the Master wants” (The Message). Each time this passage flashes through my mind, I take time out to re-examine my life and what exactly God has in mind for me when he created me on this planet earth. A lot of people today go through life without an idea of what they should or should not be doing. Life is not meant to be lived frivolously or taken casually, God has a purpose for your life. There are people today who possess everything money can buy, work in big corporations, earn huge salaries, have beautiful homes, exotic cars and lovely families and still, are not satisfied with life. This anomaly simply tells you that living life to the fullest is not consisted in the abundance of things that you have or do not have.

The above scripture is succinct enough about the fact that the master has a blueprint for how He wants your life to be. In the first place, he gave you that life. Acts 17:28a says “For in Him we live, and move and have our being.” A number of people have allowed situations and circumstances to perverse their view of life. Some people believe that life is unfair and therefore shapes their judgment about fairness. Some believe it is a race and hence, influences their judgment about speed. All these and many more are what shapes people’s perception of life.

But our notion of life should be rooted and grounded in scriptures. This is how best we can come to appreciate what life is all about. The reason people go through life casually is simply because they haven’t taken time to ask God the purpose of their creation. When you live your life outside of God’s purpose for your life, life will be boring, it will be unfulfilling and it would appear to be a routine. Divine purpose is what gives your life a true meaning and a sense of living. You may not see any meaningful reason right now why you should take time out to ask God what he would have you do in life, but some day, you may see the need for it.

There are times we go through paths in life that may not be colorful. But at the end of the day, these paths are needed to catapult us into why God created us. Look at the story of Joseph for instance. He had a lot of things going his way in life at first. He was a handsome boy,the first son born to Jacob through Rachel, and therefore, his father loved him. He had great dreams that made him feel good about himself. But then one day his entire life changed. He was forced to leave the comfortable life he had known, full of love from his parents, and go forth into the unknown. How terrifying that must have been for a boy of seventeen at the time. Yet, God had His hand on Joseph. God had a divine purpose for this young man. Joseph didn’t know why God had chosen this path for his life until the very end, yet he never seemed to waver. God was always in control.

You may also be going through certain experiences right now that you don’t understand why it has to be you. Why not hold on to God and let Him take you through that process. I believe there is something he wants you to see at the end of the journey, and a message He is trying to pass across to you. There is more to life and to your life than what you think. Let me conclude with this quote from Robin Lee Hatcher “God makes each one of us for the time into which we are born. He creates us for a purpose. Our job is to know Him well, discover what He created us to do, and then do it for all we’re worth for the rest of our lives. Ask God to show you your purpose. He will answer.” Thank you for reading and do have a lovely day.
