5 Pious destinations from Delhi for a religious getaway

If you're living in the national capital and planning for a religious holiday this weekend, you'll find plenty of destination to enjoy a promising time in different temples and shrines. Let's take a look at some of the most revered ones near Delhi. 

Here're are some of the most famous religious destinations near Delhi you need to visit. 

Srinagar – Established by the son of emperor Ashoka, Jaluka somewhere around 200 BC, the Shankaracharya Temple is the focal point of religious devotion for the Hindus. Surrounded by the picturesque location of the snow-capped and green valleys of Kashmir, this temple is situated at an elevation of more than thousand feet. The temple is considered to be one of the biggest holy destinations in the country and will surely clasp in your attention with its serene environment. Hazratbal Mosque, another religious milestone in the region is also located on the banks Dal Lake, is famous for its relic, hairs of Prophet Muhammad, in its inner sanctions. After a pious time in the valley you can take one of the Srinagar to Delhi flights to return. 

Rishikesh – Though there are several religious spots in this town, but the Neelkanth Mahadev Temple stands out as a prominent name. Situated at a height of more than 1600 meters, on the slopes over the famous Swarg Ashram, the Neelkanth Mahadev temple is considered to be amongst the most acclaimed religious spots in Rishikesh. The temple celebrated the aura of Lord Shiva and as indicated by Hindu mythology, it is located at the spot where the God drank the venom when the agitating of "amrit" or the solution of life occurred. 

Dargah Ajmer Sharif – An enchanting home to the Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, Ajmer Shariff attracts people from all corners of the world to clear their minds with some profanity. Imparting the life teachings of the Sufi saint, the dargah is famous for its qawwalis which narrates the teachings and goals of lives in a musical manner. 

Haridwar – This city is famous for its religious spot Hari ki Pauri, which is known as the most worshipped spot in the holy city. Har ki Pauri actually implies the 'Lord's Footsteps'. It is said that its ghats (also the most famous area in the spot) is the foot shaped impression of Lord Vishnu himself. This impression is said to be right at the exact mark where Ganga river enters the plains of north India from the mountains. Har ki Pauri large ghats is also acclaimed for being the home turf for organizing the Kumbha Mela and Ardh Kumbh Mela. Other famous spots like the Chandi Devi Temple, which is dedicated to the deity of Chandi Devi and Maya Devi Temple, devoted to an incarnation of Goddess Shakti, are also amongst the most visited. Allahabad – One of the biggest center of religious devotion in the northern part of the country, Allahabad is famous as the site for the Maha Kumbh Mela which takes place after every 12 years. Apart from the mela, there are several temples dedicated to Lord Shiva, the majority of which were made during the rule of King Harshavardhana.
