Every time God gives us an instruction; it is God exposing us to what we need to do to be better.
“But be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror, for he observes himself, goes away and immediately forgets what kind of man he is”
James 1: 22-24.
The act of doing is more important than hearing the word of God. There’s no way we display honour and loyalty to God and his work better than doing what he says. The word of God is like a mirror, every time we hear the word; we behold ourselves in the mirror of his eternal will that shows us where we are and where we ought to be. The mirror of his eternal will is not just to show us our state; for us to pity ourselves but for us to take action – to do what is needed for us to move from where we are to where we ought to be.
Every time we refuse to do the will of God as exposed in his word, we are forgetting the image we ought to be and we have made a choice to embrace the image that we see constantly. We say to ourselves when we refuse to do the word, that we are alright by ourselves and there’s no need for change.
The word of God is a mirror for us on the earth. There’s no one or any standard by which we can measure our increase or growth but via the word of God. When we refuse to look into the mirror of life and make adjustments, we have refused change, increase and growth.
There are so many hearers of the word of God today but few doers. That is why the earth is full of believers that have forgotten what manner/kind of man/woman they are. It is time for action; we must embrace doing the word of God and not just hearing.
“But he who looks unto the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer not a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does”
James 1:25
Every instruction of God is a work to be done and a responsibility to be carried out. Every time we forget what he says, we have refused his work and instructions (responsibilities). We are often quick to say to say to God; I’ll do whatever you ask me to do. But we have forgotten that he has chronicled his will and instructions for us in his word, which reflects the actions to be carried out; work to be done and responsibilities and duties to fulfill. That man that looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it:- that is a man that hears the word of God and continues in the hearing of the word, not a one-time hearer, because faith (resoluteness) to do the will of God comes by continuing in it (hearing and hearing the word of life). A man/woman of faith in God is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the word, which is a work, task, responsibility that must accompany his/her faith. Show me your faith without works and I will show you my faith by my works. The work that we do is the show/proof of our faith in the word of God, which we have heard and received.
Our faith in God that produces works of faith is what God uses to produce undeniable profits/proofs of obedience in our lives. We are blessed for the words that we work on, not on the words that we hear. The word of God must transit from hearing to doing the work for us to be certified by him as blesses people.
The action word of the believer is the doing word. We must do the word, which is our work.
