THE ALTARS OF DECISION

Understanding The Platforms To Connecting With God Sensitively

We are going to start by looking at a particular verse today, but I want us to keep in mind the verse we read last week in Psalm chapter 75, so that we will understand the foundation before we start building on it. Psalm 75:6-7. This is the text for the series, so, every time we make reference to it, it is us reminding ourselves the foundation of this series so that we understand the perspective through which the Holy Spirit is speaking to us.

Download Podcast: THE ALTARS  OF DECISION

"For exaltation comes neither from the east Nor from the west nor from the south. 7 But God is the Judge; He puts down one, And exalts another."

Psalm 75:6-7

For exaltation, which we also know that is elevation, lifting, promotion comes neither from the east nor from the west nor from the south. But God is the Judge. God is the judge of all promotions. God is the judge of all elevations and God is the judge of all exaltations. He puts down one, and exalts another. He puts down one and exalts another, He has that prerogative. And we saw in that Obadiah 1:4 that we used to pray, God said I will put you down, He has that ability, He has that prerogative and we must not forget.

While the Holy Spirit was speaking to me about the message this morning, He made me understand that the Bible chronicles dethronement and enthronement of different people. If you look from Genesis to Revelation, you will see that there is a story about how a person is exalted and how another one was dethroned, how one was put up and another was put down. From Genesis to Revelation, you will see examples of individuals that have been chronicled in the Scripture. The Bible says the Scriptures have been written for our learning. So we must understand that we must learn from the passages of the Scriptures, everything that we are and will ever be is already chronicled on the pages of the Scriptures.

So if you don't learn, you will not know and if you don't know you will not understand, and if you don't understand you cannot live the life that you have been called to. And that is why it is so critical for us to go to the pages of the Scripture and learn. How are men dethroned? How are men enthroned? And this morning that is what the Holy Spirit will be doing with us on this journey, we will understand how God enthrones people, who are this people? What did they do? What was their heart? What was their mind what was their attitude?

And one of the things we must understand we mentioned in the title is Altars  of decision. We are going to start with Altars . Altars  talks about places and platforms of exchange, places and platforms of communication, where communication takes places. And communication, we are talking about effective communication, where there is a sender and a receiver and there is feedback. And Altars  talk about places and platforms of influence where somebody is influenced and he makes a decision, those are what Altars  represent. And when we talk about decisions, it talks about the choice of the person. When you make a choice to be here, you have decided to be here, where you made a choice this morning of putting on your phone and connecting to the internet to listen to this message, you have made a decision.

So Altars  of decision talk about platforms provided by God and sensitively connected to and understood by saints. That's why we looked at the status of a believer. That status was what qualifies you to be called a saint not all these Saint Cecelia, Saint Theresa, you are a saint because you are a son of God. And that status that we looked at last week is what qualifies you to be a saint. So when God provides a platform, saints, sons of God, they sensitively connect and understand it, and that sensitivity brings about an upgrade or elevation in their lives. So Altars  of decisions are platforms that God creates and we will see it through the example and the lives of three individuals in the Scripture. This morning we will be looking at the elevation stories of Abraham, Elisha and Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour. Let us start with Abraham, I want us to see Genesis 12. Abraham is very important for us to consider. I will like to start from verse 12 so that we have a little background, I don't want to read all the Scriptures, I just want to read the important ones.

"Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your descendants I will give this land.” And there he built an altar to the Lord, who had appeared to him. 8 And he moved from there to the mountain east of Bethel, and he pitched his tent with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east; there he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord. 9 So Abram journeyed, going on still toward the South."

Genesis 12:7-9

Then the Lord appeared to Abraham and said, “To your descendants I will give this land and there he built an altar to the Lord. In this chapter from verse one to about verse three or four, God called out to Abraham, he never knew God, he was just a man living his life with his family in a country and God reached out to him and God said to Abraham come out from your father's house, come out of your country, come out, I am calling you out and Abraham responded. God provided a platform and Abraham responded, he made a decision.

So Altars  are usually platforms that are provided by God but connected to, sensitively by saints. I want us to understand that definition because it will help our understanding. Altars  are usually provided by God, and you will see how God provides platforms and Altars . When God spoke to Abraham, God said I am giving you an opportunity, I am presenting a platform for you, I am presenting an opportunity for you to change your life and your story, for you to elevate and He said come out, and Abraham sensitively connected to that platform by doing what, obeying.

And He said in verse 7 after Abraham had come out, he took his family, then the Lord appeared to Abraham and said after he obeyed, "to your descendants I will give this land And there he built an altar to the Lord" Abraham connected to the platform that God created. God spoke a word, Abraham built an altar. It said He built an altar to the Lord who had appeared to him. Verse 8, and he moved from there to the mountain east of Bethel, and he pitched his tent with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east and there he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord. So Abraham journeyed, going on still toward the South.

Now this verse 9 is so important for us to understand, it said "So Abraham journeyed going on" Now Abraham did not pitch his tent. Now this is the danger, the reason many us as believers have stopped experiencing upgrades and promotions in our lives is because some of us, we only pitch our tent at one instruction of God and we stay put there. The Bible says, and Abraham built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord. So Abraham journeyed, going. God does not like a sense of arrival, you must keep going with Him, because He is taking you on a journey. Your life is a journey, it’s not a bus stop. Your life with God is a journey, it’s not a bus stop, don't ever think you have arrived, It said, so Abraham journeyed, going on still towards the south. Now I want us to read Genesis 13:11. I want us to be patient and follow the Holy Spirit. Genesis 13 verse 11, and we will read it to 17.

11 Then Lot chose for himself all the plain of Jordan, and Lot journeyed east. And they separated from each other. 12 Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelt in the cities of the plain and pitched his tent even as far as Sodom. 13 But the men of Sodom were exceedingly wicked and sinful against the Lord.

14 And the Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him: “Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are—northward, southward, eastward, and westward; 15 for all the land which you see I give to you and your descendants forever. 16 And I will make your descendants as the dust of the earth; so that if a man could number the dust of the earth, then your descendants also could be numbered. 17 Arise, walk in the land through its length and its width, for I give it to you.”

Genesis 13:11-17

Then Lot chose for himself all the plain of Jordan, and Lot journeyed east. And they separated from each other. Abraham dwelt in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelt in the cities of the plain and pitched his tent even as far as Sodom. But the men of Sodom were exceedingly wicked and sinful against the Lord. And the Lord said to Abraham, after Lot had separated from him, Abraham made a decision, there was a fight between him and his nephew Lot and he made a decision, a decision that was in line with the will of God, and he said Lot we can't continue to have this strife, let us separate and that separation was an altar, it was a platform and Abraham keyed into it. He said, Lot choose for yourself where you want to go, and Lot lifted up his eyes and choose for himself, he established himself and when Abraham was left alone, and the Lord said. This verse 14 is critical, and the Lord said to Abraham after Lot had separated from Him". Some of us would think it is a bad thing that Lot separated from him. Some of us think when people leave our lives, that's the end of it, No!

God gives us platforms sensitively, and it happens in times and in seasons of our lives. Sometimes we feel God should not have done that but it is important and critical in your journey if you want to be elevated by God. And He said verse 14 “Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are—northward, southward, eastward, and westward; for all the land which you see I will give to you not the land you chose for yourself. The lands you see I will give to you and your descendants forever and I will make your descendants as the dust of the earth; so that if a man could number the dust of the earth, then your descendants also could be numbered. Arise, walk in the land through its length and its width, for I give it to you.” And Abraham moved his tent.

You cannot connect to the elevations when you don't connect to the Altars , the platforms and opportunities that God has placed in your life, you must connect sensitively. It said and Abraham moved his tent and went and dwelt by the terebinth trees of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and built an altar there to the Lord. He did not build Altars  until God provided platforms. The reason Abraham would ever build Altars , if you look through all these verses, we are going to look at some other ones, it is because God had provided a platform by His word. How do you move? Do you move by the word of God or by your instinct? Do you move because people said so or you move by the word of God? How do you move your tent?  For you to be elevated by God you must connect to the platforms and the places that God has provided for you, the word that God has provided, you must connect to it sensitively; there you must build an altar. I want us to see Genesis 14:21-24. This was another time in the life of Abraham.

"Now the king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give me the persons, and take the goods for yourself.” 22 But Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I have raised my hand to the Lord, God Most High, the Possessor of heaven and earth, 23 that I will take nothing, from a thread to a sandal strap, and that I will not take anything that is yours, lest you should say, ‘I have made Abram rich’— 24 except only what the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men who went with me: Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre; let them take their portion."

Genesis 14:21-24

Now this was an opportunity for Abraham to honor God before circular kings, that see the one I connect to is the Kings of Kings, I know my status, I am a heir of God, lest you say that you made Abraham rich.  I will not take anything from you. Just the way thing Daniel did, I won't eat the portion of the kings meat and see what God will do with our lives and Genesis 15:1, see what God did.

"After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward."

Genesis 15:1

It said After these things, initially I thought there was a disconnect between that chapter 14:21-24 and chapter 15:1, the Bible says after these things, after the altar of decision that Abraham connected to, the word of the Lord came to Abraham in a vision, saying, “Do not be afraid, Abraham. Don’t be afraid. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.” I am your rewarder, you may have labored and it looks as if you labored for kings but I am your rewarder. Child of God, elevation does not come from that job, your elevation does not come from that uncle or that boss, God is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him.

You must connect to God sensitively on the Altars  of decisions. When you decide to honor God, glorify God, move your tent when God is speaking, your elevation is sure. It's just a matter of time. Genesis 17, I will read verse 9-11 and I will read verse 23. This is another time in the life of Abraham

"And God said to Abraham: “As for you, you shall keep My covenant, you and your descendants after you throughout their generations. 10 This is My covenant which you shall keep, between Me and you and your descendants after you: Every male child among you shall be circumcised; 11 and you shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between Me and you."

Genesis 17:9-11

And God said to Abraham: “As for you, you shall keep My covenant, you and your descendants after you throughout their generations. This is My covenant which you shall keep, between Me and you and your descendants after you: Every male child among you shall be circumcised; this was another instruction of God, and you shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between Me and you. Let me explain this to us in case we don't understand, at this point when God was giving this instruction to Abraham, don't think it was easy for him to obey. I want us to see a Scripture in Genesis 17:17,

"Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed, and said in his heart, “Shall a child be born to a man who is one hundred years old? And shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?"

Genesis 17:17

It said, then Abraham fell on his face and laughed, and said in his heart, “Shall a child be born to a man who is hundred years old? Abraham was hundred years old when God said to him, that he should be circumcised in his foreskin. I have two sons and I witnessed when they were circumcised, as children that don't even know pain, that have not grown so much, it is painful, talk less of a hundred years old man and God is requiring this from him. He said in verse 11, you shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between Me and you. This difficult thing that I am asking you to do will be a covenant between me and you.

What is God asking of you, how difficult is it? It is critical to your elevation. Some of us, we say to ourselves why me? Look at my brother, God is not demanding so much. Your consecration is tied to your elevation. If God does not require a thorough consecration for you, maybe your destiny is light, it doesn't amount to much but when your consecration requirement from God is heavy, know that your elevation experience is also heavy. See verse 23 of Genesis 17,

"So Abraham took Ishmael his son, all who were born in his house and all who were bought with his money, every male among the men of Abraham’s house, and circumcised the flesh of their foreskins that very same day, as God had said to him."

Genesis 17:23

So Abraham took Ishmael his son, all who were born in his house and all who were bought with his money, every male among the men of Abraham’s house, and circumcised the flesh of their foreskins, that very day, no delay as God had said to him. As God said to him, he moves his tent in obedience. As God says to him, he builds an altar. What altar are you building? Are you connecting to the altar of decision because the altar of decision is the altar of obedience. What is God saying? And what are you doing? And when are you doing it? The Bible says concerning Abraham that that very same day he did it. This difficult thing, God asked you to fast for seven days and you say God I will start next week, Abraham didn't start next week, the very day.

There is something about prompt obedience. It shows how much you honor God. If you are a father and you have a child and say to the child go and do this for me and that child moves swiftly, you will know that child honors you. And imagine you have a child and you tell the child go and do something for me and the child starts dragging, this thing you are asking me to do, I don’t want to do it and the child starts dragging and eventually does it, how excited will you be? That's the same way we treat God. When we delay obedience, we drag our feet, God why? Why now? This time that they cooked Jollof rice in the house that’s when you say I should start a fast.  Honor Him, that's what Abraham did. Genesis 22:1-3 and I will read verse 9-18, I will just pick some verses there.

"Now it came to pass after these things that God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” 2 Then He said, “Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” 3 So Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son; and he split the wood for the burnt offering, and arose and went to the place of which God had told him."

Genesis 22:1-3

Now it came to pass after these things that God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” Then He said, “Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” When I saw this, I said God is instruction specific, and instruction sensitive. He said "take your son", taking your son to sacrifice is big enough deal, you will think the land of Moriah is very close. He said go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering. Not just any offering, burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you. Not the one you prefer, not the one you like, the one I will tell you.

Verse 3, I want us to go there, so Abraham rose early in the morning and you will wonder how come Abrahams elevation experience was so drastic, his obedience was drastic like that. It said, so Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son; and he split the wood for the burnt offering, and arose and went to the place of which God had told him. See verse 4, so that you will know that Moriah was not close. Then on the third day Abraham lifted his eyes and saw the place afar off. "On the third day", I don't know where your own land of Moriah is and you are complaining, remember it is tied to your elevation. I want us to see from verse 9.

"Then they came to the place of which God had told him. And Abraham built an altar there and placed the wood in order; and he bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar, upon the wood. 10 And Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. 11 But the Angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” So he said, “Here I am.” 12 And He said, “Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me."

Genesis 22:9-12

Then they came to the place of which God had told him. And Abraham built an altar there and placed the wood in order; and he bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar, upon the wood. Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. 11 But the Angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!”So he said, “Here I am.” 12 And He said, “Do not lay your hand on the lad because in the heart of Abraham, Isaac was as good as dead. Isaac was already a burnt offering. That was the kind of heart that Abraham had. That was the kind of altar of decision that Abraham connected to.

"Then the Angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time out of heaven, 16 and said: “By Myself I have sworn, says the Lord, because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son— 17 blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies. 18 In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice."

Genesis 22:15-18

And I want us to see from verse 15. God now provided a lamb of sacrifice, Then the Angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time out of heaven, and said: “By Myself I have sworn, says the Lord, because you have done this thing. There are Altars  you connect to, there are decisions you make that God will make a covenant with you that because you have done this thing, because you have obeyed me. Elevation in the kingdom does not just come like ripe pawpaw it comes on the Altars  of decisions He said, because you have done this thing and have not withheld your son, your only son, blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies. In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.”

Because you have obeyed my voice, you have connected to the platform I have provided for your elevation. God is not a man that would lie nor the son of man that would repent. God is not a respecter of persons whatsoever a man sows that will he reap. You can't envy people and say God, why are you lifting others, do you know their consecrations, do you know the Altars  of decisions they have connected to? Child of God, God is not partial, there is no partiality with God. When you connect to Altars  of decisions God will elevate you. There were many people alive during the time of Abraham but not all of them did what Abraham did, they were many people that were alive in time of Abraham but not all of them connected so all of them cannot have the story or the posterity of Abraham.

I want us to see James 2:23 so that it doesn't look as if we are just reading the old testament we are just making reference to it because I know we need to see that we take a balance in all these. And see that reference was still made to what Abraham did. I want to read from verse 21,

"Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? 23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” And he was called the friend of God."

James 2:21-23

Was not Abraham our father justified by works? When we are talking about works here it is about your obedience, it is about your decisions, about the things that you do in honour and glory to God, how you connect sensitively to the platforms that God provides. Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, Abraham moved his tent in obedience to God, Abraham circumcised himself and his household in obedience to God. Abraham believed God and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” And he was called the friend of God. He was called the friend of God, what an elevation!

I am just going to paraphrase the life of Elisha, Elisha was another man that God elevated, Elisha was a business man, he was a man of a wealthy background. I want us to see that 2 kings 21 and we will see the life of Elisha and how Elisha connected on the altar of decision so that we will understand that in the kingdom, God is not a Father Christmas that just dish out blessings, you connect to His blessings. 1 Kings 19, let me quickly read verse 16 then we move to the other story in 19-21.

"Also you shall anoint Jehu the son of Nimshi as king over Israel. And Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel Meholah you shall anoint as prophet in your place."

1 Kings 19:16

"So he departed from there, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he was with the twelfth. Then Elijah passed by him and threw his mantle on him. 20 And he left the oxen and ran after Elijah, and said, “Please let me kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow you.”And he said to him, “Go back again, for what have I done to you?”

Word of Confession: (Optional)

Lord Jesus, I confess to you that I have sinned against the LORD God - in the rebellion of my heart, I have disappointed your expectations on my life. I have fallen from Your grace and followed wrong influences around me. Today, I retrace my steps back to you - and I ask that in your mercy you accept me as your son and give to me (again) the promise of the Father - the Holy Spirit. Lord Jesus, please, come and make my heart your home, and from there rule in the affairs of all men. In Jesus Name I have prayed.

Decision Connecting With GodMay2020

It is one thing to be full of the knowledge that puffs up, it is another thing to be full of the knowledge of His will. While the former gives a form of godliness the latter gives you the power to unlimited access in God.
