The Muslim Association of Nigeria (MAN) has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to avoid glitches in the forthcoming governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun States in June and July 2022 respectively.
The association noted that the successful introduction and deployment of Bimodal Voter Accreditation System would ensure credible elections in the states.
This was contained in a statement by the National President, Alhaji Tajudeen O. Ojikutu and Publicity Secretary, Alhaja Mudirakat Ajibona, imploring electorates to be peaceful and orderly in exercising their responsibilities by casting their votes conscientiously.
The statement reads in part, “The Muslim Association of Nigeria (MAN) at the conclusion of its meeting called on INEC to live up to its responsibilities in the conduct of the forthcoming governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun States. MAN is highly worried about the incessant non-credible elections in Nigeria and the level of voter apathy demonstrated by electorates is worrisome.
“However, the upcoming elections in Ekiti and Osun will set the standard for the general election coming up in 2023, as it is overseen directly by the INEC.
“We charged the political parties to engage in a campaign of ideas, intentions and the pursuit of their goals in manners that would enhance the development of the states and empowerment of residents.”
MAN, therefore, commended the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, for ensuring the successful deployment of devices that will ensure accreditation and fairness.
