"Friends can destroy one another, but a loving friend can stick closer than family." -Proverbs 18:24 (GWT)
No one can be an island on their own, we are all relational beings, and It is important to be a friend indeed, some people will only associate with you when the going is good, but once there is an issue, they disappear. The law of sowing and reaping works in every area of life. It sure works in relationships, you have to sow love to receive love.
According to our text today, the way to have friend is to be friendly, it does not cost anything to be nice. In fact as Christians we should be nice to everyone around us, we should always show everyone God brings our path the love of God, kindness is one of the fruits of the Spirit, and if indeed we are children of God, we should be nice and friendly to people around us naturally. We should accommodate and tolerate other people, and not be quick to judge others, [Matt 7:7]. Some people portray a holier than thou attitude, they see everything that other people are doing wrong, it is as if they are the only one that is holy and perfect.
Jesus was nice and friendly to everyone around him, He was kind to the woman caught in adultery, He didn't look down on her, when some parents brought their kids to Jesus, the disciples were trying to tell them that he was too busy and can't see them, but Jesus stepped in and showed kindness. No Christian should ever be described as hostile.
Make up your mind as we begin this day to show some one the love of God, the world sure needs it and who else but us Christians should show the world by our word and deed the love of God.
