Chittorgarh Fort is the largest fort in India came into its real form in 7th Century AD. It was built by the Mauryans (Maurya Ruler Chitrangada Mori) and ruled by the Sisodiya Clan of Rajputs. Lies at the height of 510 ft and spanning across an area of 692 acres, Chittorgarh were former capital of Mewar before Maharaja Udai Singh II. The beautiful fort is known for housing Vijay Stambh, Kirti Stambh, Fatah Prakash Palace, Rana Kumbha Palace, Gaumukh Reservoir and Padmini’s Palace. There are various temples inside it.

Amer Fort – A Must See Heritage Fort in Rajasthan

Amer Fort or Amber Fort, at the distance of 11 km from Jaipur, was built in 1592 AD on the remnants of earlier structure of Maharaja Man Singh of Kachwaha Rajput Clan. This massive fort has total 4 courtyards known as Jaleb Chowk, Diwan-Ai-Aam, and third and forth were private places for royal families. Third courtyard houses private quarters of the Maharajas, the Mughal Gardens, the Tripolia gate, the Lion gate and the Sheesha mahal or the mirror palace.

Mehrangarh Fort – Perfect Example of Rajputana Style of Architecture

With 7 gates out of 4 have real historical importance, Meharangarh Fort is the perfect example of Rajputana style of architecture that attract tourist from across the world. It is situated 400 ft above the city of Jodhpur surrounded by thick impregnable walls; while the fort houses different palaces and courtyards. Moti Mahal, Sheesha Mahal, Phool Mahal, Takhat Vilas, etc are different parts of this heritage fort.

Kumbhalgarh Fort – Famous for Having More Temples in a Fort

Built 1100 meter above sea level and situated 82 km northwest from the city of Udaipur, Kumbhalgarh Fort is the second most important fort of Mewar Rulers. The perimeter of the wall that environs the fort extends to 36 km and is 15 -25 feet thick making it the second largest wall in Asia after the Great Wall of China. The fort holds over 360 temples within its walls – occupied by the Sisodiya Rajput family till the late 19th century and is now open to public as a tourist attraction.

Jaigah Fort – Located 400 Ft above the Amer Fort

Located on the hill top called on Cheel Ka Teela or the Hill of Eagles 400 ft above the Amer Fort, Jaigarh Fort is a must see fort in Rajasthan. It has four courtyards called as Laxmi Vilas, Lalit Mandir, Vilas Mandir and Aram Mandir. It has a wall tended garden. Not to mention Subhat Niwas and aromory.

Ranthambore Fort – Making Your Heritage Tour Complete

Founded by Nagil Jats, it is another wonderful and a must see heritage fort during your Rajasthan tours. The walls of the fort enclose an area of around 4 km; while mines created to get hold of the stone for making this fort were later turned into ponds for water storage. It has different temples that can be dated back to the 12th century.
