Centenary City: House Seeks Prosecution Of Anyim, Bala Mohammed

The House of Representatives has called for the prosecution of the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator Pius Anyim, for his role in the Centenary City Project. The project in question, which cost over $18 billion, had Anyim as a major driver.

The lawmakers also sought for the prosecution of former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Senator Bala Mohammed.

The call was one of the recommendations adopted by the House on Thursday, after considering the report of its Committee which investigated the matter.

The lawmakers also approved the recommendation that the Code of Conduct Bureau, as well as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission should investigate the roles played by both former public officers in the project.

Anyim had earlier described the whole process as a vendetta carried out on him by Hembe. On February 3, Anyim, while appearing before the committee, accused the Herman Hembe, the committee’s chairman, of “deep-seated personal bias”.

“Mr Chairman I said one, you have told everybody who cared to listen that when the former DG of Security and Exchange Commission accused you of demanding bribe from her, you pushed for her to be sacked and I refused to sack her while I was SGF and this is an opportunity to pay me back,” he had said.

The committee also said Anyim and his associates flouted existing laws guiding the Abuja land swap policy for personal gains.
